Vivienne Westwood ‘Putti’ Pop Swatch
‘Salon’ - Spring/Summer 1992
This unique and versatile watch is the product of a collaboration between British Fashion Designer Vivienne Westwood and Swiss Watchmakers Swatch.
It was released as the ‘Putti’ watch’ - ‘putti’ (singular, putto) being the name of the oftentimes winged infants depicted in many works of art, including the one displayed on this watch.
The artwork featured on the watch, ‘The Swarm of Cupids’ (c. 1767) by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, inspired many of Westwood’s designs throughout her A/W 1991 and S/S 1992 collections, ‘Dressing Up’ & ‘Salon’. The piece made multiple appearances on the runway shows and on the designer herself, printed allover as though the garments were made from the canvas itself. This 18th Century lavishness made for an incredible, overtly maximalist set of collections.
So why ‘Pop’ Swatch? Well, this specific model has quite a unique functionality. The wearer can quite literally pop the watch face out of its casing, unlocking a whole new world of wearability. Want to wear it on your sleeve? On your chest? In your hair? No problem. Simply reunite the watch face with its casing either side of your chosen material. One can only imagine the possibilities.
One Size
Condition of the watch is excellent other than a small scratch on the watch face that can be seen in the close-up image. The case/box is quite beat up, and battery needs replacing. Please review images.
