Founded in 2001 by Tatsuro Horikawa, JULIUS_7 is a Japanese fashion label known for its dark, post-apocalyptic aesthetic and military-gothic influences. A self-proclaimed admirer of black for its spiritual and symbolic depth in Zen philosophy, Horikawa describes the brand’s essence in seven words: Black, Chaotic, Industrial, Techno, Avant-Garde, Contemporary, Minimal. Prior to launching JULIUS, Horikawa worked as a video jockey in Tokyo’s underground club scene, an experience that influenced the brand’s experimental and visual-heavy identity.
JULIUS collections often feature architectural silhouettes, distressed fabrics, and a palette dominated by black. The label has also introduced a permanent line, which revisits iconic pieces from its archive, blending past inspirations with a contemporary perspective. Over the years, Horikawa has explored themes ranging from nomadism to industrial minimalism, solidifying JULIUS as a key player in the avant-garde fashion sphere.
These jeans from JULIUS’ Fall / Winter 2010-2011 collection are comprised of a thick black cotton, with a twisted seam and distressed knees. Other features include a belt loop ring and a ’gas-mask’ closure flap on the right pocket.
